Hate Your Job? Learn How to Never Work Another Day In Your Life

I Hate My Job

How many of you wake up in the morning and HATE GOING TO WORK ? *Everybody raises their hand* Now how many of you hate your job and actually are doing something to change that? *blank stares*…Exactly. No matter how much you hate something in your life its very seldom that we actually take the time to change ourselves or the surroundings that we hate so much….you must admit its mentally frustrating.

I was once in that position about 4 years ago or less, but I still remember it like it was yesterday and its still one of the motivating reasons for me to keep doing what I love to do day after day. I was stuck working paycheck to paycheck hopping from job to job even though at this point I never had what I would call a financially successful venture I knew working for somebody wasn’t for me, because honestly (and this is a BAD trait), but I hate to take orders one of my flaws…I’m sorry .

Coming to a realization that you need to make a change

The last job I had was at a gas station (Little Generals I think) working the cash register on 3rd shift 11-7am and I hated it! The hours were terrible, the people sucked and the pay swallowed ($7.35 an hour :/), but whatever thats besides the point. My point is that I hated my job! I knew I could do better and instead of quitting and doing something about it (leaving myself with no money..aka NOT SMART) I took advantage of all my SPARE time and worked on building something I loved that could also support me financially…I made a change.

First thing was I figured out what I loved to do and that was fashion. Yes I love clothes and shopping and art I can draw, but thats one of my talents I don’t show very often mainly because, its too time consuming. I was already doing a clothing line on the side and anybody will tell you its not the most profitable business in the early stages, but I liked it so I stuck with it. Things started to happen for me in the fashion industry around this time and I was receiving interest from a few local newspapers. The main question they would ask was “How did you start a clothing line”. I was all about helping others so I would put my phone number in any publications that took a chance and wanted to interview me. The more the merrier right?

My Wake Up Call

So its been some weeks and I’ve done over 6 interviews in newspapers locally and my phone is starting to ring and my email is reaching spam status with people wanting to know “How to start a clothing line”. I still wanted to help, but not to the point to where it was jeopardizing my own progression and thats when it struck me! Why not start a website where I could write when I want and just direct everybody there? That way it doesn’t directly affect my work time and I could write the articles whenever. As you can see I kind of fell into what I do now by accident, but it wouldn’t have happened for me at all if I never followed what I loved to do.

Planning for mistakes

As I told you earlier don’t just quit your job and start working on your goal. Be smart and remember what we talked about in the last article on how you should take advantage of all spare time. While I was working at the gas station they allowed me to have my laptop (since I worked 3rd shift) and I would work on my website while at the 9-5 making money to keep the lights on so to speak. I had a plan that if I could supplement my income then I could quit my job so that was my first step. Once I done that I would then focus on developing more sites therefore increasing my overall income. Things don’t always work out so just jumping out there with no plan or no backup is just as bad as NOT making a change in the first place…either way you might end up miserable.

Why you won’t give up

This isn’t a Get Rich Quick scheme…sorry! It didn’t happen over night, and it was a lot of work, but it didn’t feel that way because I was doing things I liked to do. Writing about fashion, running a fashion business and on top of that making money. In my mind that has always been my key to success, because otherwise I probably would’ve gave up we all know thats so much easier to do.

The excitement of choosing your own destiny is exciting enough for some and doing what you like is just the icing on the cake. I know its cliche saying if you do what you love the money will follow, but in my case it did. Many let money be their only deciding factor to stick with a job and thats fine when its a JOB, but not when running your own business you need more. What about when times get tough (your not making much money) you will still have that passion for what you’re doing in order to keep going.

If money is your only motivation when it doesn’t come you will jumpship and move to the next idea not giving it the necessary time it needs to grow into something sustainable or at least get you through the learning curve that comes with taking on any new venture.

Closing Thoughts

When you work/start a business for money you will make decisions based on money and with any business or service whats the idea? Provide a valuable service to your customers right? This plays the same no matter if you’re a rapper, actor, event planner, cashier, entrepreneur or a janitor at the end of the day you have a crowd to please and if you’re all for self  and monetary gain then you will be the only person being pleased by the outcome of the final product and therefore NOBODY will invest in you or your product.

So what happens next? You’re idea fails or you miss your goals. You have to find a balance of what you like and how it can financially support the lifestyle you want to live. Therefore increasing the odds in your favor when times get tough and once you do you will never work another day in your life, but spend the rest of your days doing what you love.
